Overview of the Wine
Like the wine’s appellation, life is unwritten. We were inspired to create something beautiful – something that would grow with us in our own unwritten journey. And what originally started as a fanciful dream has become our life. As we poured our passion each weekend into hand-selecting the very best grapes and watching them grow and mature, our bonds as families and as friends also blossomed. Together, we created a wine that is timelessly delicious and decadent – one that can be enjoyed today, twenty years from now by our children, and beyond. Our families are forever impacted by this vintage. We hope that you’ll get inspired and join our vinous family too.

Winemaker Tasting Notes
“The inaugural vintage of our Unwritten Signature Series Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolute show-stopper. From the heralded 2021 vintage, the nose is replete with graphite, blackberry and jasmine. It is heady and inviting. The voluptuous nose leads to a complex and dense palate. Blue and black flavors of anise and cardamom are intermixed with notes of crushed violets and slate. Although 100% Cabernet, it almost reminds us of the exotic perfume that can come with the addition of a few percent Petit Verdot. This wine is a perfect example of what Napa does so well: classically balanced, smooth, persistent and delicious. It is a great wine from a great vineyard in a great vintage. This is blue-chip stuff,” says Mark Porembski, Winemaker @ Unwritten Wines.
This vineyard is rich in Napa Valley history and has been proclaimed to be the most important vineyard anywhere in the world, as so many foundational experiments have been conducted on this property by viticulture students at UC Davis that have shaped the Napa Valley wine region. This 20-acre parcel sandwiched between Robert Mondavi’s Monastery Block, the Oakville Grade and Walnut Drive, is at the heart of the original To-Kalon Vineyard. For those Napa Valley history buffs, the original budwood for Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon came from the Oakville Station. Today, the modern Oakville Station comprises two vineyards of 20 acres each: the Old Federal Vineyard, which was part of Hamilton Crabb’s Ranch (considered one of the pioneers who developed Napa Valley as a wine region) and the South Station, from Stelling’s McGill Ranch, all of which are farmed by the viticulture program at UC Davis.
99 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Unfortunately, there are a scant 50 cases (two barrels) of the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Signature Series, a riveting Cabernet Sauvignon that does everything right. Aged 23 months in new French oak, it’s a big, rich, full-bodied effort with tons of both red and black fruits as well as some floral and incense-like nuances that blossom with air. It’s concentrated, has incredible mid-palate density, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish.
