Overview of the Wine
This farm, purchased by the Folonari family in 1971, dates back to 1300 and has 385 hectares of land, 90 of which are used for specialised vineyard cultivation and 15 of which are used for olive groves.

Located north of the village of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, the Nozzole estate covers a striking, rugged, mountainous area of about 1,000 acres at 300 meters in elevation. In order to obtain concentration and complexity in the wine, yields are kept low. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation is initiated on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a maceration period to draw out color and tannins. The wine is racked into stainless steel tanks for malolactic fermentation before aging in oak vats and in bottle before release. The wine is bottled on the estate.

Tuscany experienced a fairly frigid winter, in absence of snow and rains below average. The vegetative growth has been anticipated by a surprising spring, very hot and untimely. Given the hot temperatures, the flowering took place quickly and without interference. The season continued with high temperatures for some periods of the summer, alternating some rains. The vineyards, which enjoy a good maturity and an excellent balance during all the phases of the year, well endured the dry season. Sangiovese, which could be prone to damage caused by drought, did not suffer thanks to irrigations, taking water from the two lakes inside the estate. September started with sunny days alternated with some rains which brought to a very good technological and phenolic maturity which was able to guarantee structured and elegant wines, faithful expression of the vintage.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The 2020 vintage shows a rich crystalline ruby red colour. Marked woody smells perfectly balanced with ripe red fruits, balsamic notes and bitter orange. Pleasantly dry and vinous on the palate with smooth, ripe tannins. Mouthfeel sensations of balm, incense and herbal tea; long vanilla and chocolate finish.

Villa di Nozzole suggests to pair it with pigeon filled with black truffle, spring onions and carrots glazed with balsamic vinegar.

93 Points - James Suckling
Attractive on the nose with cherries, red berries, dried herbs and baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Harmonious and poised with a refined character. Weightless and agile. Polished and succulent finish. Drink or hold.
