Overview of the Wine

Reyneke Chenin Blanc is an organic single-variety Chenin Blanc white wine produced by the Reyneke winery in the Stellenbosch region, South Africa.

This wine is made using a combination of grapes from two vineyards that are part of the Old Vine project, which dates back to 1970. These vineyards are cultivated following the principles of biodynamic agriculture and with minimal intervention.

To make the Reyneke Chenin Blanc wine, the clusters are pressed whole and naturally fermented with their own yeasts. For aging, they use a combination of second-use 300-litre French oak barrels and a 2,500-litre foudre. The wine spends 10 months there with its own lees before being bottled.

Reyneke is one of the most famous biodynamic wineries in South Africa, and as well as producing wines with maximum respect for and in harmony with nature, they also run charity projects to help their workers. A circle of gratitude and sustainability that is clear to see from the quality of each of their wines.

 

The 2018 Chenin Blanc is a combination of grapes sourced from two adjacent vineyards. These vineyards are part of the Old Vine Project and hail from the early 1970’s and are farmed according to biodynamic principles. There is a minimum interventionist approach to making this wine.

Tasting Notes
Upfront floral and white peach notes, with hints of pear and grapefruit on the nose. Notes of honey and melon start to become more apparent later on, in the glass.The palate is fresh and vibrant, with an almost saline feel on the tongue. The finish is long, well balanced and rounded.

Reyneke Chenin Blanc 2018 is a white wine with complex aromas of pear and white peach accompanied by floral notes and citrus hints of grapefruit that gradually give way to melon and honey. On the palate it is fresh and vibrant, accompanied by a subtle saline note. A wine with a long, balanced and rounded finish.
