Overview of the Wine
For almost five hundred years, the Philipponnat family has left its mark on the soil of the Champagne region. Generations of men and women have cultivated the land at At, the family's home since the time of Apvril le Philiponnat who owned vines at Le Léon, between Ay and Dizy, in 1522. In the 16th century the family's ancestors were winegrowers and merchants, suppliers to the court of Louis XIV, magistrates and Royal Mayors of Ay - a town which was directly dependent on the Crown since the era of the Counts of Champagne.
Philipponnat's legacy has been passed down through the ages, producing a long line of men and women who are still today the custodians of a centuries-old philosophy. Each one of them takes great care to pass on the expertise that they themselves inherited from their predecessors. There is an enduring family spirit and the team work hard to craft wines in keeping with the House's individuality, excellence, generosity, and humility.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
A very great wine as well as being a very great Champagne, Clos des Goisses is specifically intended as an accompaniment to haute cuisine. Mineral and intense, it makes an unforgettable match for dishes with strong flavours: game, truffles, caviar, and cheese.
95 Points - Burghound
This is more mature than the 2001 with a beautifully layered nose of yeast, lemon rind, brioche, dried flowers and spice hints. There is excellent volume and superb intensity to the firm mousse that despite the firmness exhibits a very fine bead. This is exceptionally impressive in the mouth with the same striking complexity of the nose coupled with positively gorgeous length. A knockout that could be drunk now with pleasure or held for a few more years first; personally I would opt for the latter but either way, this is a classic Clos des Goisses.
95 Points - John Gilman
The 2000 vintage of Clos des Goisses is now entering its plateau of peak maturity and is wide open on both the nose and palate, but I have a feeling that a few more years in the cellar will allow even a bit more refinement to its palate impression, which still shows a bit of youthful angularity today. The bouquet is superb, jumping from the glass in a quite mineral blend of peach, apple, smoky overtones, complex minerality, a touch of lavender and the first signs of the macadamia nuttiness to come with more aging. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and nicely open on the attack, with a fine core and soil signature, bright acids, elegant mousse and fine length and grip on the still gently youthful backend. I have no problem drinking this wine today, but it may be even a shade better with a bit more patience. This bottle was disgorged in May of 2015, so this is a later disgorgement than the original release.
94 Points - Int'l Wine Cellar
Yellow-gold. Heady aromas of poached pear, floral honey, quince paste and musky flowers, with a smoky mineral overtone. Rich but energetic and focused, offering mineral-laced orchard and pit fruit flavors and suggestions of tarragon, vanilla and brioche. Plays power off finesse, finishing with excellent clarity and stony persistence.
94 Points - Vinous
Philipponnat's 2000 Clos des Goisses is an excellent choice for drinking today, as there is less upside than in some of the other surrounding vintages. This is a distinctly savory Goisses with more than enough phenolic weight and richness to support many years of cellaring, although I do not expect to see a lot of improvement from here. Hints of sage and mint add nuance on the close. The 2000 is a beautiful and highly expressive Goisses, but its place in the hierarchy of vintages is quite apparent in this epic tasting.
