COTE DU RHONE

About the Producer

Sixth-generation Cyril Marès is one of the Costières de Nîmes’ greatest producers. In addition to running the family estate, he also runs Mas Grand Plagniol, both of which are farmed sustainably in one of the Rhône Valley’s most up-and-coming appellations. The region’s reputation is prized for the high quality of its terroir, which is rich in red clay and limestone and galet roulés which are known for insulating the vines during inclement weather.

The region boasts a viticultural history going back several centuries Before Common Era when the Greeks were reputed to have planted vines in the area. Viticulture was further encouraged by Roman expansion and then, in the early Middle Ages, by the church.

2019 - 92 Point Review by Ian Blackburn

The 2017 version of this wine was our BEST SELLING RED - and clients called for over one year and said "DO YOU HAVE MORE?" - so we purchased over 200 cases of this wine!   And the importer took a huge position on it as well - so much so - they skipped the 2018.

The new 2019 vintage has just arrived - and for anyone that purchased the 2017 - this wine may surpass the 2017 in drinking quality very soon.  Its younger and less integrated as of now (Aug 27th, 2022) but they components are equal if not greater... a little more volume at every level!  All this and little price increase... that is rare in todays wine world.

I would buy this wine by the case - enjoy one now... and smile because you have 11 left to enjoy.

Great color and definition established in the glass;  nose of baked blue and red berry fruits, with baking spices, mocha, and star anise. Dense, defined, and loyal to the rhone style... this is a home run for best value on any table.  Color 13.5/15, Aroma 23/25, Body 23/25, Overall 32.5 = 92 Points!!!  Bravo!!!
