About The Producer
Krohn or, Wiese and Krohn to give its full name, was founded in 1865 by two young Norwegians, Theodor Wiese & Dankert Krohn. Edmundo Falcão Carneiro acquired the company in the 1930s and Wiese and Krohn was run by the second and third generations of the Falcão Carneiro family until 2013. Krohn Port was acquired by the Fladgate Partnership (owners of Taylor, Croft and Fonseca) in 2013. Krohn’s stocks of Port reach over 5 million litres and are stored in six cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and one cellar in the Douro Region. They have exceptional stocks of aged tawny Port and colheita Port dating back to 1863.

About The Wine
Colheita Ports are single year tawny Ports of a high quality level which have to be matured in wood for at least seven years. Normally they are bottled just before they leave the cellars, which may happen much later than the 7th year of age. For this reason, the Colheita Ports generally remain in wood for long or even very long periods, and acquire with time the characteristic mahogany color of the old Tawnies, a fine and complex bouquet, a nutty character and a silky texture.

Grape / Blend
Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca

Origin
Sarzendinho, Duoro Valley, Portugal

Tasting Notes
Lovely rich tawny color, with notes of caramel and toffee scent. A touch of chocolate covered raisins and almonds, balance off the delicious intricate flavous. Smooth, elegant finish.

Food Pairing
Take a Colheita Port after meal with creamy cheeses like Brie and Camembert from France or Serra from Portugal. Take it also with grilled chestnuts or crème brulé.

What is a COLHEITA vs a TAWNY?

Tawny's are blends - 10, 20, 30 or 40 year in style.  Colheita's are basically single vintage versions... this one is from the great 1996 vintage and is aged in wood for 15-18 years and then bottled..... and really represents a superior wine vs. the 20 year blend.... in my humble opinion.
