Overview of the Wine
Francis Egly is the fourth generation of the Egly family to make wines from their exceptionally located, old vine vineyards in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay (home to some of the greatest Pinot Noir that can be found in all of Champagne), where he is considered the finest grower. Francis took over from his father Michel in 1980, with the intent and commitment to take these already revered Pinot Noir dominant Champagnes to the absolute apex of quality. He began using organic methods in the vineyards, with regular ploughing, and reduced yields. Once the grapes enter his cellar, Francis makes sure to only allow for the gentlest possible extraction, of which he only keeps the purest first pressing (known as the cuvée). Francis believes deeply that complexity and structure comes not only from perfect fruit, but also from extended lees aging. This belief is felt throughout his lineup, with most of his wines undergoing a minimum of 48 months on the lees with some cuvees being aged for 100+ months! All of this meticulous work in both vineyard and cellar has led to his standing by both his peers, critics and Champagne lovers across the world as one of the greatest growers in all of France.

94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
This release of the NV Champagne Vignes De Bisseuil is based on 2019 but also includes 2018 and 2017. In the glass it pours a bright silver straw hue and offers savory, ripe aromas of pear, melon rind, fresh earth, and briny salinity, with bold character and ample ripeness. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers a good deal of intensity and maybe even more fruity on the palate. It’s a savory wine with lovely richness, a refined mousse, and a long finish. Drink it over the coming 15 years.
93 Points - Wine Advocate
A considerable step up from Les Prémices and Les Vignes de Vrigny in complexity and tension, Egly's 2019 vintage-based NV Les Vignes de Bisseuil includes reserve wines from 2018 and 2017 and was disgorged in October 2024 with one gram per liter dosage. Heavily based on Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, all vinified in oak, it derives from a south-facing site on chalky soils in Bisseuil. Wafting from the glass with aromas of fresh citrus fruit, bread crust and crisp pear, it is medium- to full-bodied and concentrated yet racy and fresh, with notable cut and a chalky profile, concluding with a long, precise finish. Just like Egly's grand cru bottlings, this too will richly reward patience.
92 Points - Wine Independent
The NV Les Vignes de Bisseuil Premier Cru Extra Brut is a blend of 80% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir, and 10% Pinot Meunier from estate vines located in the 1er Cru of Bisseuil. The blend is based on the 2016 vintage, and it was barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in barrel on lees for 52 months before being disgorged in November 2021. It has 3 g/L dosage. Pale lemon-gold in color, it comes bounding out with ready-to-go notes of fresh grapefruit, raspberry leaves, and Golden Delicious apples, followed by hints of pear drops, marzipan, and clover honey. The palate is refreshingly dry and energetic with youthful citrus and crunchy apple flavors, supported by a very fine mousse, finishing long and zesty with impressive purity and precision.
