Overview of the Wine
Colgin Cellars produces exquisitely handcrafted red wines using only the finest neo-classical winemaking methods in concert with small yields, gentle handling, attentive sorting and meticulous blending.
The Colgin winery, completed in 2002, is located at the northern end of IX Estate in the Pritchard Hill area of St. Helena, California. The state-of-the-art winery provides an inspiring view of Lake Hennessey. In 2017 we agreed to the exciting opportunity to become a strategic partner of the LVMH group. The only American wine label to be part of their Vins de Exception Group, Colgin Cellars is included with Chateau Cheval Blanc, Chateau D’Yquem, and Domaine du Clos des Lambrays. We are honored to be partnered alongside these historic properties as we work to produce incredible wine from some of the most exciting wine regions in the world.

Winemaker Tasting Notes
The 2019 Tychson Hill exhibits a poetic balance of lively aromatics and minerality that is undeniably compelling. Centered around classic Cabernet Sauvignon flavors, the wine demonstrates a perfect pirouette of dark red berries, cherry pit, melting chocolate, and graphite. Suave layers of silken tannin unfold on the palate, yielding a finish both subtly sweet and savory. Full of textural density though never heavy, the 2019 Tychson Hill dances across the palate.
100 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The “home” vineyard of Ann Colgin and Joe Wender, Tychson Hill has emerged as one of St. Helena/Napa’s most singular, evocative vineyards. Only about six acres in total, sloped and with a northern aspect, the major section of the vineyard was planted in 1997 to heritage clones of Cabernet Sauvignon with a smaller section planted in 2014.
Deep purple-black colored, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill Vineyard comes skipping out of the glass with bright, vibrant scents of black and red cherries, boysenberries and wild blueberries, plus suggestions of violets, dark chocolate, licorice and fertile loam. Full-bodied, rich and oh so velvety, the palate is laden with layer upon layer of red, black and blue fruits spiked with tons of spicy accents and an epically long, earthy finish. The interplay of spine-tingling energy and decadent richness here is simply mind-blowing.
98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Starting with the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill, this beauty offers a wonderful array of blue fruits, crème de cassis, graphite, new leather, and spice. Incredibly aromatic and already complex, it’s full-bodied on the palate and has silky yet substantial tannins, perfect balance, and a great finish. Just gorgeous in every way, this savory, spicy, layered 2019 already offers pleasure yet will evolve for 25+ years if properly stored.
96 Points - Wine Spectator
Rock-solid and with an old-school hint, this has charcoal, menthol and tar notes amid the core of muscular black currant, plum and blackberry reduction flavors. A tarry edge extends through the well-structured finish, with the fruit showing serious length. For fans of the muscular style. To be released March 2023. Best from 2024 through 2040.
