Overview of the Wine
Owned by Élisabeth and François JOURDAN , Château l'Argentier is located in the commune of Sommières in Languedoc-Roussillon.  Château l'Argentier has an important heritage of very old vines planted with indigenous grape varieties from Languedoc (Aramon, Cinsault and Carignan). Purchased in 1937 by Paule MARTIN-GRANEL (grandmother of Elisabeth JOURDAN), the estate was first run by her sons, André and Raymond MARTIN.

In 1983 Élisabeth JOURDAN (daughter of Raymond MARTIN) and her husband, François, a Burgundian native of Santenay, trained at Clos de Malte , took over the estate. Immediately convinced of the excellent wine-growing potential of the “Argentier” terroir, they cleared new plots, planted young vines, and rehabilitated the old cellar.

Pioneers in the revival of wine-growing Languedoc in the 1980s, now the third generation of winegrowers to operate Château l'Argentier, Élisabeth and François JOURDAN make every effort to produce fine wines that respect their terroir each year.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Delicate citrus, raspberry and strawberry notes with a touch of melon, tart cherry and strong minerality. Dry with crisp acidity. Enjoy with shrimp or crab, broiled fish, mild cheeses and beet salads with goat cheese and canidied pecans. The Jourdan family has been established in Sommières, between Nîmes and Montpellier, since 1937. Endowed with an unusually high  percentage of old vines, they make an array of blessedly old-fashioned and unaffected wines exclusively from grape varieties indigenous to the region. All wines are fermented and aged in concrete vats. They make a special point of not releasing their wines until they consider them ready to drink. Love!
