Overview of the Wine
The history of Grand-Puy-Lacoste is fascinating in many ways. It is a family saga going back to the 16th century. The name Grand-Puy, already mentioned in documents from the Middle Ages, comes from the ancient term "puy" which means "hillock, small height". True to its name, the vineyard sits on outcrops with a terroir similar to that of the Médoc's first growths. Since the 16th century the property was passed down from generation to generation, until the current family, the Borie's, bought the property in the 1920s.
This is a special bottling from the Estate for DUCLOT of declassified Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Absolutely lovely value - great vintage - ready to enjoy

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The weather for the 2016 vintage was exceptional. Winter was mild and experienced heavy rainfall. During the month of June, there was little to no water, and temperatures were warm during the day and cold at night. The grapes reached optimal ripeness for the harvest, which was from September 28th to October 13th.
Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2016 has a brilliant purple color. It has intense aromas of black fruits, spices and flowers. In the mouth, proves to be complex, dense and sweet. Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2016 is fresh and masterfully-balanced. The tannins melt in the incredibly long lasting finish. Overall, an elegant and complex red from Pauillac.
93 Point - Ian Blackburn
2nd wine by Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste - which in 2016 received 97-96-95 points by the main publications. This is a fantastic vintage and a great producer; this is a small lot bottling of approx 2000 cases exclusively for export by DUCLOT and the team of Jean Pierre Moueix. This wine is built to deliver quality and value - with precise, definitive Pauillac Cabernet character from declassified Grand-Puy-Lacoste... and incredible value.
Review: Signature cedar, graphite, and dark red fruits with good weight and concentration. The vintage really struts its qualities even in this second wine. Purity, density, and definition are not lacking, and there is great balance and pleasure here... even in its youth. This will be a nice surprise for anyone that wants to open it early or hold it in cellar for 15+. Color 14/15, Aroma 23/25, Body 23/25, Overall Impressive 33/35. 93 Points
