Overview of the Wine
Campo Viejo believes in a life more vibrant and colourful.
Blending traditional and progressive winemaking methods, our wines express the vibrancy and colour of modern-day Spain. Our wines are the reflection of the heritage, history and curiosity that drive us each day. The pasión that we put into each bottle, capable of making something simply, extraordinary. La pasión is the secret ingredient that has made Campo Viejo the nº 1 Rioja in the world. With vineyards across the La Rioja sub-regions and a wine-making team committed to innovation, we pioneer rich, contemporary expressions of Tempranillo, the region’s signature varietal.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Fruit (cherries, black plums, ripe blackberries) and oak (clove, pepper, vanilla and coconut), enriched by the complex aromas developed during bottle ageing. Very attractive on the palate, with ripe fruit and spices, tabacco and toasted oak. Elegant and soft tannins, middle weight, long and complex finish.

A very mature and extremely rare bottle of Rioja in Reserva level classification from Campo Viejo from the legendary 1964 vintage.

The bottle is in excellent condition for its age of over 55 years with great fill-level, pristine labels and an intact capsule with very light corrosion (see images).

1964 is universally as well as by many leading wine critics considered to be the 'vintage of the century ' in Rioja, with great longevity.
Also, in the 60s most wineries would by far exceed the modern aging requirements to achieve a 'Reserva ' classification, often aging the wines in oak for 3 years or longer (rather than 1 year in oak and 2 years bottle aging as required by the current regulations).
