Overview of the Wine
This farm, purchased by the Folonari family in 1971, dates back to 1300 and has 385 hectares of land, 90 of which are used for specialised vineyard cultivation and 15 of which are used for olive groves.
Located north of the village of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, the Nozzole estate covers a striking, rugged, mountainous area of about 1,000 acres at 300 meters in elevation. In order to obtain concentration and complexity in the wine, yields are kept low. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation is initiated on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a maceration period to draw out color and tannins. The wine is racked into stainless steel tanks for malolactic fermentation before aging in oak vats and in bottle before release. The wine is bottled on the estate.
Tuscany experienced a fairly frigid winter, in absence of snow and rains below average. The vegetative growth has been anticipated by a surprising spring, very hot and untimely. Given the hot temperatures, the flowering took place quickly and without interference. The season continued with high temperatures for some periods of the summer, alternating some rains. The vineyards, which enjoy a good maturity and an excellent balance during all the phases of the year, well endured the dry season. Sangiovese, which could be prone to damage caused by drought, did not suffer thanks to irrigations, taking water from the two lakes inside the estate. September started with sunny days alternated with some rains which brought to a very good technological and phenolic maturity which was able to guarantee structured and elegant wines, faithful expression of the vintage.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Located north of the village of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, the Nozzole estate covers a striking, rugged, mountainous area of about 1,000 acres, a third of which is vines and olive groves. Vigneto La Forra Riserva is produced as a single-vineyard Chianti Classico only in exceptional vintages. Only the finest Sangiovese grapes are selected for this wine, from Nozzole’s 200 acres of vineyards in the Chianti Classico zone between Florence and Siena. La Forra is among the estate’s finest parcels, with 35-year-old vines on a south-facing slope at 300 meters in elevation. Grapes are manually harvested, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation is on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by maceration on the lees and malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged in oak and in bottle before release.
Impressive concentration and depth, with blackberry and red cherry aromas and flavors set in a beautiful Chianti acidity.
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
The nose starts in your grandmother's living room, with perfumed aromas of flowers, baking spices, vanilla and candied cherries, before vegetal notes of bell pepper and herbs waft in from her garden. On the palate, these savory notes slowly crescendo into a vibrant, spicy, acidic finish.
