Overview of the Winery
Quinta das Queimas is a family project started in 2018 based on a long agricultural and winemaking tradition in farms in Santa Ovaia de Cima, Tondela. These farms, recently inherited by sisters Cristina and Graça Videira Lopes, encompass about 30 hectares of vineyards and 10 hectares of pine forests. Our project consists of preserving as much as possible the good traditional practices of viticulture and winemaking in the creation of authentic and varied wines that reflect the untamed spirit of the people and places of this region.
Next to the farm that gives its name to our project, Quinta das Queimas, is a very old so-called "alminha", of unknown origin, with a symbol of two double spirals. This symbol also appears on the Pedra Formosa of Citânia de Briteiros, so it is possible that the origin of this granite landmark is Celtic. Our Quinta das Queimas is located in an area very close to Castro de Nandufe, and over the years several very old artifacts have been found in it, such as mós and stones. For us, the symbol of the queims' alms is a link with all those who, before us, worked and enjoyed these lands of excellence.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
This wine is a general overview of our abilities, and a true sensory experience based on the principle of exposing natural flavors, with little intervention. It was made from grapes from our three main farms, and with several grape varieties, of which Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, and Rufete from some very old vines and others more recent stand out. The 2020 vintage proved to be a good year for red wines, with healthy and very balanced grapes. The grapes were harvested manually, following a rigorous selection process. This wine comes from a batch of five grape varieties, with a minimalist approach in the cellar with the combined fermentation of the grape varieties in a granite mill, allowed a very balanced and complex blend. The stage took place in a progressive and controlled way in stainless steel tanks for 18 months.
Color: Ruby red
Aroma: The wine has aromas of forest fruits, where red blackberry and currant stand out, notes of red fruits combined with a slight touch of cedar leaf, which gives it complexity and intensity.
Palate: In the mouth, we witness notes of red fruit, such as blueberry and raspberry, and light nuances of spices. The wine has soft and well-integrated tannins, where its persistent natural acidity provides a long and persistent aftertaste.
Consumption level: The wine is ready to be drunk, but has potential for aging.
