Overview of the Wine
Azienda Franco Conterno is located in the heart of the Langhe, in the hamlet of Bussia di Monforte d'Alba. The estate's oldest vines were planted by Pietro Conterno before being passed on to his son Giacomo, who later passed it on to his nephew Franco, who took over in 1996. Today the winery is run by Franco, his wife Vilma and their two sons Andrea and Daniele, together with his wife Emina. The family continues to honour the legacy of Pietro by producing authentic, world-class wines that reflect the area's exceptional microclimate and terroir.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
"Cascina Sciulun" by Franco Conterno is a medium intensity red wine that is matured in barrels and barriques for 12 months. It has a rich and intense sip, soft and enveloping, with a bouquet that alternates red fruit with spicy and sweet wood notes, typical of aging.
92 Points - Ian Blackburn
What is it with all these Conterno's? Franco, Danielle, Aldo - they are three generations... and Danielle is the youngest and helping to make all of them. Franco still directs his wines and this wine deliveries in a hirer tier way - better fruit, better definition, better time in wood. This wine is nicely ripe, with a fruit focus that others struggle to achieve. Polished and rich - this is a top quality Barbera for the buck and really one of my favorite values to recommend. Color 14.5/15, Aroma 22.5/25, Body 22/25, and Overall 31/35 - 92 Points
