Overview of the Wine
Situated in the province of Siena where the renown area of "Brunello di Montalcino" is found, Castiglion del Bosco encompasses approximately 4,450 acres of land, 125 of which are vineyards with plans to plant 15 more acres. The farm is located between the historic towns of Buonconvento and Montalcino. Given the truly magnificent geographical position of the estate, perched on a hill looking down onto the surrounding valleys, exposure is optimal resulting in wines of excellent quality. These are very exciting wines, new and classic at the same time.

Castiglion del Bosco was the first to produce and bottle Brunello di Montalcino in the sixties and today represents one of the most important properties of this region. Plans are currently underway to produce new wines and expand the existing cellar. This estate prides itself on the highest level of quality combined with respect for tradition. Claudio Basla, from Altesino, also consults at Castiglion del Bosco insuring the same levels of quality that we have always enjoyed from that estate.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The 2017 Brunello has certainly enjoyed the benefits of a careful selection in the parcels (including the Millecento vineyard). The wine has a wide nose. It maintains crisp fruit and floral notes. In the mouth it is elegant, complete and supported by an excellent acidity.

94 Points - James Suckling
Aromas of ripe berries and plums with some flowers and nutmeg follow through to a full body with round tannins and a juicy finish. Slightly chewy, but friendly and succulent. Excellent 2017, despite the dry growing season.

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Castiglion del Bosco project is a dream created by Massimo Ferragamo of Italy's celebrated leather and fashion family. The property includes a state-of-the-art winery and a luxury hotel. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino unfolds to reveal textbook aromas of black fruit and ripe cherry. For sure, the wine embraces a soft and contemporary personality with a good amount of fruit weight, oak spice and tannins. It registers 15% alcohol. The warm 2017 vintage brings out the softer, richer side of this Sangiovese from galestro soils.

91 Points - Decanter
Owned by Massimo Ferragamo since 2003, Castiglion del Bosco is an expansive property surrounded by forest in the far northwestern corner of Montalcino. As of 2016 the wines are certified organic. The 2017 harnesses all the sun and heat of the summer. Dripping with cherry compote, it is laced with vanilla, baked stone and dried florals. The palate is robust and somewhat rustic, with gritty grip and a warming finish. Lots of personality, if not the most elegant example. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2029.

90 Points - Wine Spectator
Rich, exhibiting cherry, plum and earth flavors. Firm tannins line the finish, adding lift and definition. At this stage, there is a light astringency, which leaves a chalky sensation. Best from 2024.
