Overview of the Wine
Diamantakos Estate is a small family run winery, located in the heart of Naoussa’s PDO zone, in the Mantemi region. Always looking towards the future and respecting Naoussa’s rich viticulture history and tradition, we focus on cultivating two indigenous varietals, Xinomavro and Preknadi.

Our story begins in grandpa George Diamantakos’s vineyard, first generation viticulturist, located at Isvori, Naoussa. It was there, where a huge old walnut tree was uprooted by a strong wind, revealing the remains of the philosopher Aristotle’s School, where it is said that Alexander the Great studied. The land was then bought by the government. In 1978, the family purchased the land which is now our winery and vineyards, marking the continuation of our journey. In 1998, Evangelos Diamantakos, second generation viticulturist-winemaker and son of George, bottles the first wine of the estate. Fast forward to today, the annual production averages 2.000 cases.

All tasks from the vine to the bottle are carried out by hand, focusing on the noble contribution of the human factor and preserving biodiversity. We seek to create with passion and responsibility wines that highlight the two indigenous varietals of the unique ecosystem of Naoussa.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Xinomavro reveals all the depth and complexity of Naoussa’s terroir. An approach that focuses on concentration and freshness, with typical aromas and flavours, reminiscent of small red fruits, combined with floral notes and sweet spices from the oak. The bright acidity and the refined tannins build the structure of the wine. This is a wine, which is accessible and enjoyable in its youth. At the same time, it has an extraordinary potential to evolve over the years in the bottle, unfolding all its virtues, enhancing pleasure at the dinner table.

A wine of pale ruby colour, medium aromatic intensity. On the nose, it delivers red fruit dominated by red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and red plums; black fruit mainly bramble, damson, black cherries, and black plums; herbaceous aromas, such as tomato leaf, tomato paste, olives; spice such as allspice. Fruit is enveloped in restrained oak influence giving aromas of vanilla, cream, and butterscotch.

On the palate, the wine is dry, with medium + acidity, medium body, framed by fine-grained medium + tannins, firm but suave versus red, black fruit extract, a layer of botanical flavours and medium alcohol. It displays medium intensity of flavours but persistent and vibrant finish. Its tannins and acidity levels are balanced versus fruit and alcohol integration; a clean, elegant easygoing start on the palate but followed with layers of complexity, juiciness and characteristic herbs. This vintage can be enjoyed now but can be kept for bottle ageing as it has enough tannins to be resolved, acidity and fruit.

91 Points - James Suckling
This has notes of iron, earth, sour cherries and spice box. Lemon peel, too. Firm and dusty, with tight tannins, medium body and a mineral, lightly austere finish. Drink or hold.
