Overview of the Wine
Situated on the north-facing slopes of the Santa Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County, the Alma Rosa estate vineyard, El Jabali, was first planted in 1983 by California wine pioneer Richard Sanford, who founded Alma Rosa Winery in 2005.
Today, our 628-acre estate has five distinct vineyard sites planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Grenache that stretch from the valley floor to 850’ in elevation. Our total 40 vineyard acres comprise a small portion of our ranch and are separated by open wildlife corridors, meadows and forest.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Alma Rosa’s estate vineyard, El Jabali, was originally planted in 1983 by winery founder Richard Sanford. The 2021 El Jabali Pinot Noir reveals a radiantly deep ruby hue in the glass. Seductive aromas of red cherries, red currants, rhubarb, herbs and flowers harmonize gracefully, showcasing the terroir of Alma Rosa’s estate vineyard. On the palate, delectable notes of red cherries, strawberries, and baking spices are framed by vibrant acidity and alluringly silky, seductive tannins.
93 Points - James Suckling
Very structured, balanced and complete. Ripe black cherries, blueberries, toast and baking spices. This is the most widely available Alma Rosa pinot, made from mostly hillside, estate-grown grapes with no stems included. Aged in 30% new oak barrels. Drink now or hold.
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Dried cherry, cola and nutmeg aromas make for a spicy nose on this appellation cuvée. The palate is ripe with baked cherry pie, chai spice and touches of menthol that elevate the complexity.
