Winemaker's Tasting Notes
2022: Following January, the growing season was marked by persistent drought conditions. A significant heatwave in September accelerated ripening, further reducing yields in an already low-production year—impacted by a cool, foggy flowering period and cold temperatures at bud break. These conditions resulted in intensely concentrated fruit, delivering exceptional depth and character.
A brilliant, pale golden hue hints at the wine’s youthful vibrancy and potential for graceful aging. The nose unfolds with delicate notes of yellow flowers, a whisper of oak reminiscent of meringue, and a touch of lemon custard. With aeration, the floral aromatics become more pronounced, complemented by nuances of lychee nut and a subtle thread of saron. On the palate, a fresh and lively attack seamlessly transitions into a rich, round, and mouth-filling evolution. The acidity is impeccably integrated—present yet never overpowering—allowing layers of almond and fresh pear to emerge. The finish is precise and mineral-driven, building with energy and finesse. While already expressive, this Chardonnay will continue to develop complexity and depth over the next 2–5 years. For optimal enjoyment, avoid serving too cold, and consider decanting in its youth.
94 Points - James Suckling
Warm-flint and nectarine-pit aromas are followed by stone-fruit flesh and a core of minerals. The ripeness of the vintage is wrangled into a structured yet well-fruited palate, a sappy, lingering character riding through the white-flower-kissed finish.
94 Points - Vinous
The 2022 Chardonnay Estate is rich and robust, with penetrating sweet almond, marzipan, ripe peach, and ginger spice. Inner sweetness and vibrant acidity are beautifully balanced in this impressive effort. A fabulous wine for the vintage.
