Overview of the Wine
The wine is from the town of Bernkastle (burnt castle) thus a bernkasteler (er means the town) and its from the vineyard known as Badstude.  Bernkasteler Badstube is a historic collective vineyard site (Grosslage) located in the Bernkastel district of Germany's middle Mosel valley, famous for producing exceptional Riesling wines.Terroir and SoilLocation: Steep, curved hillsides that slope down toward the Mosel River around the ancient town of Bernkastel.Soil Composition: Composed predominantly of blue and black Devon slate.Effect on Wine: The slate stores daytime solar heat and warms the vines, while imparting a signature flinty, saline minerality and bright structure to the wines.

Grosse Lage: (meaning "great site") is the highest official quality tier for individual vineyard sites in Germany, functioning identically to a Grand Cru classification in France.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Features lively, racy acidity balanced by notes of green apple, citrus, stone fruit, and delicate florals. Produced in various sweetness levels, ranging from dry/off-dry (feinherb) to traditional sweet Prädikatswein classifications like Kabinett and Spätlese.

The Bernkasteler Graben Vineyard is located right next to the famous Berncasteler Doctor. Very old Riesling vines grow here on a slope gradient of almost 60%. This produces highly elegant and fruity wines with lots of finesse, which are especially in the residual sweet style remarkable.

A classic Mosel Spatlese that reminds me of wines from the best vintages of the 1980s and 1990s. Very juicy and extremely refreshing, with abundant white peach and Asian pear flavors on the barely medium-bodied palate. Mouthwatering freshness in the long finish. Drink or hold.
