Overview of the Wine

"The Loire meanders through the sun-drenched slopes of Pouilly. Since the 5th century these slopes have been home to one of the most exquisite expressions of a vineyard; the renowned Pouilly-Fumé wine.

For more than four generations, our family has shared a common passion: working the vineyard and making wine. This passion has been passed from father to sons and now from father to daughters! We would like you to discover this passion… and to taste it.

Our Estate is situated on the slopes of Pouilly-sur-Loire and St-Andelain where we produce Pouilly-sur-Loire and Pouilly-Fumé on 17 hectares. Not far away, at St-Lay we also have 2 hectares where we make Côtes de la Charité red, white and rosé wines."

Serge Dagueneau and his daughter, Valerie, are the uncle and cousin, respectively, of Didier Dagueneau. Valerie, now in charge of the domaine, is a proponent of harvesting at physiological ripeness. “Les Pentes,” the cuvée we select from Valerie for our classic Pouilly – a cuvée that is exclusive to us each year - is from a parcel of 55 year old vines on Kimmerdigian marne soil, and is entirely hand-harvested. "Les Pentes" is marked by a distinctly ripe-tasting, rich, mineral quality. The “Clos des Chadoux,” represents one of Valerie’s best, also from old vines, with longer time on the lees. “La Centenaire,” the Chasselas (originally a table grape for Pouilly and a fortune-maker for growers in the 1800s when carloads were shipped to Paris by rail) yields a pretty wine, enhanced by the fact that the vines are over 115 years old.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes

"The late season permitting, we harvest some grapes that are almost over-ripe and lightly botrytized (noble rot). The wine these grapes produce releases astoundingly syrupy flavours, even though the wine remains dry with no residual sugar.

Notes of crystallized fruit mingle with quince jelly and dried apricots, with spicy and roasted notes, yielding an ample generosity in the mouth. Generous and persistent length It is a good match for rich and spicy dishes.
