Overview of the Wine
Francisco Ferreira (Grandpa Pôpa) was the bastard son of a great Douro wine producer and his maid, Joaquina Ferreira. He lived a simple but happy life, albeit in the shadow of his unknown father on record. He married Filomena with whom he had three children. He was a very charismatic person, known and respected by those around him. Today, even though he is no longer with us, he is the inspiration of the Ferreira family: an exemplary father, creator of a fantastic legacy, the Pôpa family, with fundamental family values. His greatest dream was to be recognized and valued for his work and (of course) by his father. He never achieved this in his lifetime. A generation later, his son José Ferreira (Zeca do Pôpa) made it happen by buying part of Quinta do Vidiedo, located in Adorigo, Tabuaço, in the heart of the Douro Wine Region. In homage to his father, he changed the name of the property to Quinta do Pôpa. Later, his friend Luís Pato, a winemaker from Bairrada and lover of the Douro, offered his technical knowledge to the family, challenging the third generation Pôpa to expand this dream.
The Pôpa team is known for its ambitious quality standards, knowing in advance that everything in nature needs time and respect. From this awareness comes the need to support social, human and environmental causes that will enable the creation of a fairer, more developed future with better living conditions for future generations.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Compared to the UnOaked, the Black Edition are more serious and fast-moving wines, with greater structure and longevity. They are categorised as the “prêt-à-porter” of the “Pôpa” wines – due to the representativeness of the rigorous and expensive experimentation models applied to the top-of-the-range wines, offered here at a medium price level.
A novelty in the Douro; a clean aroma guided by notes of ripe fruits and spices, persistent palate with firm tannins involved by the fruit, good acidity, structure, balance and a personalized finish. This blend is created annually through the selection of the most expressive native grape varieties of the year, from the same partners and vineyards referenced; however the differentiation of this range is in the choice of lower quotas, of lower altitude and with a higher degree of maturation; as well as in the plots, of greater age and seriousness.
