Overview of the Wine
Métisse is a French word meaning “a blend of cultures”. We chose this name because it embodies both the spirit of our original concept and our spirit as the winemakers a blend of French and American). Our first Métisse vintage, in 1996, was the result of blending grape varietals and vineyard sources. A symbiotic relationship between Philippe and his clients led to an extraordinary blend of grapes from all over Napa Valley. Then in 2003, we decided to make a single-vineyard Métisse wines. It seemed a natural progression for us, and fit our philosophy about wines expressing their native soil.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Our well-known Jumping Goat vineyard located in the AVA of St. Helena is one of the standout wines in our portfolio. A deep garnet purple color boasting aromatics of raspberry, dark cherry and chocolate with floral notes of rose petal, lavender and violet - an extremely perfumed wine. The entry is very inviting with lively acid and great minerality and is very powerful and bold with well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and lingering. This luscious wine will age beautifully. This Jumping Goat could be defined as one of the most European style's to date.
98 Points - Wine Spectator
The 2018 is a wonderfully complete wine to treasure and savor over the next 15-20 years, maybe more. It is one of the very finest wines I have tasted from Philippe and Cherie Melka.
95- Points Ian Blackburn
WOW - I think this wine just needed a little time to really strut its stuff. Reviewing in May 2022 - I can now see the patent pending Melka touch here. Glorious ripe blue fruits, with a pump and punctuated hillside character.. this is a stunner! Deep, dense, rich, ripe, and so pleasureful. Popping dark fruits lead to pencil shavings and stoney minerality and a wonderful mouthfeel. Hard not to drink now!!! I actually recommend it! I'm sure its a 20 year wine but this thing is bountiful. Color 15, Aroma 15, Body 24/25, Overall 34/35 = 98 Points - EXTRAORDINAIRE
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
A mix of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Metisse Jumping Goat Vineyard comes all from St. Helena and was aged in 65% new oak. Wonderful crème de cassis, white flowers, unsmoked tobacco, spice, and hints of lead pencil all emerge from the glass. Full-bodied, with a layered, elegant texture and polished tannins, this is just a gorgeous 2018 that will evolve for 20 years or more.
