Overview of the Wine
The historic Maximin Grünhaus estate lies at the foot of a long, steep south-facing slope on the left bank of the tiny Ruwer river, about two kilometers upstream from where it joins the Mosel. The estate belongs to the family of Carl von Schubert and is divided into three separate but contiguous vineyards: Abtsberg, Herrenberg, and Bruderberg. Each of these vineyards has its own distinct differences in terroir, which explain the unique character of the wines made at Maximin Grünhaus.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The Abtsberg vineyard is one of the greatest sites in all of Germany. It is extremely steep (up to 70% slope) and has perfect south-southwest exposure, making it the warmest site at Grünhaus. The wines from this vineyard are finely structured, with subtle minerality, a racy acidity, generous fruit and great delicacy. Grosses Gewächs (GG) is the German term for an estate’s best dry wine from a Grosse Lage vineyard.

Dense ripe peach and apricot character with a touch of mango chutney. Extremely vibrant on the super-focused, medium-bodied palate thanks to the electric acidity, but the wet stone minerality easily balances the wine’s raciness. Although this shows very well now it has been built for the long term. Very long and pristine finish. Drink or hold. 

94 Points - Decanter
Richly smokey notes open to a bouquet of flinty crushed ginger, yellow peach, acacia blossom and tangerine zest. Beautifully balanced on the palate with great depth. Citrus, tangerine peel and apricot lead the way, with white pepper, sweet spices and dried pineapple to follow. Long finish of grapefruit zest.

Candy sugar, some fudge, slightly herbal, fine yeast, ripe passion fruit, cassis. Dense and extract-driven palate, vivid, confident acidity, spicy, salty minerality, herbal notes, yuzu, fine dark spice, consistent, long aftertaste.
