Overview of the Wine
In 1638, Kopke's path as a winegrower is entwined with the history of its location. The Douro was destined to become the chosen stage for this marriage between the will of man and nature took place. Quinta de São Luiz was acquired in 1922 and has since become the place where all Kopke’s DOC Douro wines are produced. The great connoisseurs of Douro wines have always recognised this property as one of the most important in the region, for the quality of its soil and vines and for its cultural traditions.

For many years, one of these traditions was to paint the Quinta’s stone walls white once a year. These white walls are pieces of history that are cherished to this day and underline the Douro landscape in a unique way.

In the centuries to come, Kopke will endeavour to honour its legacy, that was built with passion throughout generations.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Bright amber-yellow in colour, with a golden rim. On the nose, it shows engaging and complex aromas of dried fruit, with notes of fig, walnut and toasted almond, delicate hints of candied orange peel and a touch of spice. In the mouth, it is elegant and well-balanced, revealing character, and firm yet smooth tannins.A particularly rich and prolonged finish.

Its fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, where the grapes macerate and are churned with their skins on, at temperatures between 16-18oC, to produce a white wine full of colour and structure, able to sustain prolonged ageing in oak. The fermentation is halted by adding grape brandy, creating the fortified wine. A wine of high quality, made by blending wines of different harvests to achieve the array of sensory qualities that are typical of these aged white wines. The wines mature in oak casks for variable periods of time, with the average age of all the wines in the blend defining the age on the label. The resulting blend expresses the charac- teristics given by the ageing in wood.

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Known for its seemingly unlimited stocks of aged tawnies and white Ports released in small quantities, this firm's 20-year-old white is a beautifully smooth wine. It shows its maturity in old wood character and deep gold fruit flavors. Maintaining its juicy acidity, it's a superb sipping wine. Drink now.

93 Points - Decanter
An evolved savoury nose, with woody notes, nuts, roasted peaches, a touch of caramel. The intense palate unfurls in layers of flavour supported by crisp acidity: nuts, peach jam, orange marmalade, toffee, spices, lemon and lime citrus, with a warming toastiness. Lovely long, lingering finish. Drinking Window 2021 - 2024.

93 Points - Wine Spectator
An amber color, with rich, enveloping flavors of dried apricot, quince, pear tart and flan that take on mature overtones. The powerfully spicy finish is loaded with cream and honey notes that linger with some savory details. Drink now. 200 cases imported.

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The NV 20 Year Old White Port was bottled in 2016 with a bar top cork and 108 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is a nice step up on the 10 Year Old this issue, showing far more power and depth. Here, we also get far more complexity, spice and intense flavor on the finish. Beautifully balanced, yet touching all the bases with authority, this 20 is probably the sweet spot in this lineup, the best balance between quality and price (here, for a 750 milliliter bottle).
