Overview of the Wine
In 2008, William and Nancy Kimsey established a small, 22-acre vineyard in the Ballard Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara County. The development of this vineyard was a purposeful one. Devotees of pleasurable, cerebral wines, Bill and Nancy had long searched for a site amenable to growing grape varieties they found most compelling; namely several found in the Rhone region of France; syrah, grenache, viognier and roussanne.

Our estate vineyard is located on the edges of the storied Ballard Canyon appellation. It was planted by the esteemed farming company, Coastal Vineyard Care Associates, under the careful guidance of Matt Dees and Ruben Solarzano.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
A densely planted vineyard in the Ballard Canyon AVA, Kimsey gives us concentrated fruit with supple, integrated tannins. Cherry and mocha aromatics burst from the glass, with underling notes of blackberry and cedar box. This is a full-bodied, structured Syrah; vibrant and fresh on the palate, with juicy plum and sweet tobacco. Finishes long, with prominent tannins that will soften with time in the bottle.

95 Points - Vinous
Dark and complex with savory notes, violets and wild sage. Blackberries and charred tri-tip. Energetic and packed with dark fruit. Brooding nose leads to a refined and nuanced wine. Dynamic and balanced. Stunning syrah from the perfect vintage conditions. Drink with grilled lamb burgers or farro salad with feta and roast veggies.
