Overview of the Wine
It must be impossible to praise Groffier’s wines in a way that hasn’t been done before. In every recent vintage, this domaine has produced complex, delicious, lushly textured wines that are immediately appealing, but also have the balance to improve for many years. So it was no surprise that in the 6th Edition of Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide, Groffier was ranked as one of the top four Burgundy producers of the late 1990s. While Robert and his son Serge let their grapes ripen longer than most producers, their methods are traditional. They severely limit yields and then meticulously sort the grapes after harvest. There is no strict formula for new oak or the amount of time each wine spends in barrel.
They check the wines regularly during every stage of development and let their palates guide them. Domaine Groffier also owns some fantastic vineyards and they really maximize the quality by using the Cordon Royat method of training the vines. This increasingly rare technique reduces yields and produces very concentrated grapes. The two Grand Crus are always some of the top representations of their respective vineyards. Groffier also owns the largest single parcel of the unofficial Grand Cru Chambolle “Les Amoureuses.” Even the Bourgogne comes from superior vineyards – one parcel is next to the Grand Cru Clos Vougeot and the other is adjacent to the vineyards of Morey-St-Denis.

Tasting Notes
Les Hauts Doix Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Domaine Robert Groffier is the fruit of an ancient savoir-faire. The estate is managed by Nicolas and Julie Groffier, who can count on eight hectares of property distributed in parcels of the highest quality. The domaine's style is inspired by the search for finesse, which is expressed in wines with a harmonious and silky texture, elegant and long-lived. The Pinot Noir grapes come from a parcel located within the Premier Cru "Les Hauts Doix," which is located in the southeastern part of the Chambolle-Musigny communal area, in a particularly prized area, right on the border with the famous Les Amoureuses cru. The vines are grown on soils of a limestone nature, shallow, resting directly on the parent rock. The rich presence of crushed stone and pebbles makes them poor and very draining, ideal for quality viticulture based on high planting density and low yields. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matures for at least a year in French oak barrels.
93 Points - Jasper Morris
These vines suffered less as pruned on the slow to start cordon de royat system. 35% new wood. A bright crimson ruby. This wine for the first time has the white pepper nose of the whole bunches, surrounded by a juicy vibrant red cherry fruit. If you like the whole bunch style this will be exciting. Touch of grapefruit too, at the finish. Drink from 2026-2032.
