Overview of the Wine
The history of the GOSSET family began more than four centuries ago with the first official ancestor of the lineage, Jean GOSSET (1484-1556), "Lord of Aÿ and Mareuil"
After him, sixteen generations of the family became famous in Aÿ in the Champagne region for vine growing and trading in Champagne wines
At the end of the 20th century, the merger with the Cointreau family and the birth of the CELEBRIS vintage vintages will make Champagne GOSSET enter the upper echelons of prestigious Houses, in France and abroad
Grape / Blend
54% Chardonnay, 46% Pinot Noir
Origin
Champagne, France
Tasting Notes
Vinified and aged on lees to eliminate all risk of premature oxidation. Malolactic fermentation is carefully avoided in order to preserve all the natural fruit aromas of the wine and to allow the wines to undergo longer ageing. Extra-Brut dosage (4.8 g/l) to maintain the balance between freshness, fruit and vinosity without masking the wine’s personality and purity. Ageing for a minimum of 10 years in the cellar results in a beautifully complex and structured wine.
The nose is floral with hints of white flowers of acacia, jasmine and mimosa. There are also fruity notes of pear and mirabelle plum. The bouquet is rich and heady, vinous but airy.
96 Points - Wine Spectator
A graceful Champagne, showing a sense of finesse to the detailed intersection of bright, buoyant acidity and chalky minerality, with a fine, satiny mousse and flavors of ripe Asian pear, dried white cherry, salted almond, lemon curd and crystallized honey. Long and mouthwatering on the creamy finish, echoing spice and saline notes.
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
The Champagne is showing signs of just turning towards maturity, giving it impressive longevity. The wine's white fruits, green-plum and citrus flavors have now muted as a rich nutty character develops. This is a great moment to drink the wine.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Gosset's just-released 2008 Extra-Brut Celebris is showing beautifully out of the gates, offering up sweet aromas of citrus oil, dried white flowers, warm biscuits and nougat, with hints of the dried fruits to come. Medium to full-bodied, racy and layered, with a firm core of fruit that's girdled by tangy acids and a long, penetrating finish, the house's typically tensile style is married with real flesh and weight.
