Overview of the Wine
Our story began in 1879 when Robin Daniel Lail’s great-granduncle, Gustave Niebaum, pioneered fine winemaking in the Napa Valley when he founded Inglenook Winery. Inglenook was passed down to Robin’s grandfather and then to her father, John Daniel Jr., a true innovator and wine industry leader who produced legendary wines. In 1995, after years working with other Napa Valley icons (Robert Mondavi, Bill Harlan, Christian Mouiex), Robin’s dream of creating her own extraordinary wines set flight when she and her daughters, Erin and Shannon, assembled a multifaceted team of talent and set out on her own by launching Lail Vineyards. Today, the venture carries forward the stories and patina of over 135 years of winemaking into the 21st Century. The family continues its passionate quest to produce the very finest wines from the blend of its ingredients – the land, the seasons, the winemaking team, and the spirit of the generations who led the way.
Georgia is grown on a three acre, dry-farmed estate vineyard in Yountville. This exquisite, Graves-style (dry white Bordeaux) Sauvignon Blanc is fermented and aged in 100% French oak barrels for eighteen months. It displays unprecedented depth and complexity, amazing texture, and a long lingering finish. Lail Vineyards was the first winery in the New World to produce a Sauvignon Blanc in this complex and captivating style, beginning with the 2002 vintage. The proprietary name celebrates the first member of the sixth generation of our family’s winemaking in Napa Valley, Georgia Eileen. It has been called by a leading wine writer”…California’s most complex and multi-dimensional Sauvignon Blanc.”

Winemaker Tasting Notes
Georgia Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is medium straw in color. Intense and lifted, the aromas burst forth with vanillin, white flowers and citrus zest notes. Flavors of white peach, dried apricot and tangerine envelop the palate. There are the hallmark Georgia expressions of minerality, white truffle and toasted brioche filling out the zingy and energetic finish. The oak is beautifully integrated, framing and enhancing this gorgeous wine like a fine painting.
96 Points - Wine Advocate
One of Napa's most impressive examples of the variety, Lail's 2022 Georgia Sauvignon Blanc—picked long before Labor Day's scorching heat wave—features crushed stone notes, a subtle fumé character and fruity hints of lime, tangerine and guava. It's medium to full-bodied, plump and expansive on the palate, revealing plenty of texture and length. The vineyard was originally planted by George Yount in 1839, but the current, dry-farmed vines "only" go back to 1988. Planted to Merlot then, it was grafted over to Sauvignon Blanc in 2006–2007.
95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Coming from a part of the old Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Georgia is all varietal from the Totem Estate Vineyard just outside of Yountville. It's a much more serious white offering beautiful aromatics of ripe melon, pineapple, honeyed flowers, and subtly spicy, musky nuances. These carry to medium-bodied white that has rock-solid concentration, a balanced, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. While it's brought up in 30-40% new barrels, you wouldn't know it from tasting it.
94 Points - Vinous
The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Georgia is terrific, especially in a vintage marked by severe drought. Exotic flowers, chamomile, spice, lemon confit and apricot are some of the notes that grace this textured, creamy Sauvignon Blanc. Vinification in oak and some lees-stirring build resonance. What a beautiful wine.
