Overview The Wine
Founded in 1977, and acquired by the Tipa Bertarelli Family in 2002, Grattamacco was one of first the two wineries in Bolgheri. A region typically known for Cabernet and Merlot, Grattamacco sets itself apart from surrounding wineries with its winemaking practices using 15% Sangiovese to impart quality and elegance in its wines. Grattamacco was not only the first winery in Bolgheri to use Sangiovese because of its high altitude despite its proximity to the coast, but also the first to plant Vermentino. Grattamacco wines are known for both their power, elegance and complexity that evolves with time.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Wine produced from vineyards located 100 to 200 meters above sea level with soils characterized by quartz sandstone, white clay mixed with marly calcareous flysch and red sands. The climate is temperate Mediterranean with frequent sea breezes. A viticulture based on methods and principles that are totally respectful of the environment allows a spontaneous production of grapes that is never excessive, an essential reason to guarantee the authentic expression of the terroir of origin. The grapes come from a selection of the youngest vines and from a first harvest of the oldest vines. Fermentation takes place in steel vats, where part of the wine remains in refinement, while another portion continues for 8 months in barrique. Wine bottled during the summer of 2023.

The nose is a combo of dark fruits and chocolate with notes of plum and black currants, elegant and full with a fresh balsamic finish given by the Sangiovese. A dense and powerful wine with ripe tannins, juicy and rich with a striking structure.

92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
A deep but youthful ruby color, the 2022 Bolgheri Rosso is beautiful on opening, with aromas of black raspberry, lavender, sweet herbs, and fresh leather. Pure and inviting, it’s flush with plush tannins, even acidity, and a supple texture with a graceful, mineral-tinged backbone. It is a fantastic Rosso and hard to resist now, although it will certainly cruise over the next 8-10 years.

91 Points - Falstaff
Dense ruby core with brightening on the edges. Sweet fruit on the nose, of cassis and blackberries, plus bell pepper and subtle wood spice. Smooth on the palate, tight tannic structure, juicy, balanced and persistent.
