Overview of the Wine
Taylor's is now into its fourth century: one of the very oldest of the Port companies. It is the last totally independent company of the original British Port houses-and is still family owned and managed. It is run today from Oporto by descendants of the Yeatman and Fladgate families, both of which have been partners in the firm since the 1830s.

For more than 300 years Taylor's name has been synonymous with consistent excellence in Port.

Taylor Fladgate has decided to make a limited release, each year, of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously. The fifth in the series is the 1968 Single Harvest.

Deep chestnut color at the centre surrounded by a broad amber rim. A mature, opulent plum-pudding nose, intense and powerful, with all elements in perfect harmony. Warm base notes of raisin and toffee mingle with a rich vanilla oakyness, aromas of walnut and marzipan and spicy hints of black pepper. The palate is round, concentrated and full of rich nutty, butterscotch flavor. Underpinning the smooth, dense texture is a finely-integrated acidity which provides an attractive freshness and lift into the long finish. A superb Single Harvest Tawny which delivers all the intense, mellow aromas of long aging in oak casks while maintaining an attractive harmony and balance.

Gorgeous from the get-go, with toasted sesame, green tea, walnut husk, pistachio cream and peanut toffee notes seamlessly layered atop one another, framed by a subtle singed alder hint. Everything glides with grace through the finish, like a gently wafting plume of white smoke off of burning incense.

One of a series of releases by this Port producer, this Colheita, or Port from a single harvest, is beautifully poised between red fruits and mature almond and an old gold character. It has intensity, a product of the agin in wood that has just concentrated the wine. Like all Ports of this type, it is ready to drink.
