Overview of the Wine
Blandy’s distinguishes itself for being the only family, of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade, which still owns and manages its own original wine company. Throughout its long history on the island, the family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira Wine. The family continues to live in Madeira, thus maintaining a tradition that dates back to 1811 - two centuries and seven generations producing excellent wines.
The 2003 harvest was an unusually dry one, with just one day of rain in August and not a single drop more until October, resulting in incredibly intense, concentrated wines. Blandy’s Colheita Bual from this vintage was aged for 13 years in seasoned American oak casks and, as with all the family’s vintages, started its ageing process in the warm high attic floors of the lodge in the centre of Funchal and gradually made its way down to the ground floor.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Bright golden color with golden green tonality, characteristic bouquet of wood with exotic woods, dried fruit, dates, vanilla, cocoa and roasted oak. Sweet and full bodied with long and fresh caramel and vanilla finish.Blandy's Bual Colheita 2003 is a superb accompaniment to desserts, especially fruit cakes, apple crumble or pecan pie and hard paste cheeses.
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This is a young wine in Madeira terms. That means it is full of fruit, with bitter orange and ginger to balance the acidity. The wine is sweet, always cut with that acidity and with a burnt character in the background. It is ready to drink, although some bottle age will still make it even better. Drink now and for decades.
