Overview of the Wine
Kinero Cellars is a boutique, small-production winery based in Paso Robles, California, founded by winemaker Anthony Yount. The label dates back to the late 2000s (around 2008 for the first vintage) and was built from Anthony’s passion for crafting expressive white wines — in part inspired by his desire to make white wines compelling even to those who claimed to prefer reds.

My passion for white wine, no doubt, stemmed from my father’s distaste for it. It’s not that I set out to make white wine out of spite, but rather, he inspired me. You see, he claimed to only like red wine, so it became my goal to find balanced and interesting whites that he would like. It didn’t take long as he slowly began to appreciate the depth and complexity that carefully sculpted whites can deliver. When I was presented with the opportunity to make my own wine, it was an easy decision to focus on making white wines. These wines are not only for those drinkers that enjoy the nuances of a handcrafted white wine, but also for those who pretend not to.

The 2024 Grenache Blanc Alice fermented in a mix of concrete eggs and cocciopesto amphora. It leads with green orchard fruit on the nose, along with floral and crushed stone accents, followed by a bright, tensile palate with a subtle touch of textural breadth and a similarly high-toned, zippy finish.

These releases from Anthony Yount's Kinero project showcase both the natural energy and clarity inherent in the 2023 vintage, as well as the precision and transparency of the winemaking. The focused portfolio highlights white wines from limestone soils spanning Paso Robles and York Mountain. While the Grenache Blanc Alice bottling is vinified in concrete and amphora, the In Vain Old Vine White blend, MacBride Chardonnay and show-stopping James Berry Vineyard Roussanne undergo barrel fermentation with extended élevage on their lees in predominantly Damy and Cadus barrels.
