Overview of the Wine
The Thanisch family has cultivated wine since the year 1636 and can look back on a history covering almost 400 years. Today the estate is run as a family business in the 11th generation, of which the last four generations were women. The first woman leading the estate was Katharina Thanisch, who was one of the VDP founding members in 1910. Today the estate is managed by Sofia Thanisch. The label is a very Classic Art Nouveau Etiquette from 1901 and depicts the estate, the town of Bernkastel and the Doctor vineyard in the background.

Tasting Notes
This wine is characterized by yellow aromas, honey, and spiciness, with a certain melt on the finish that perfectly rounds off the experience.

In spite of the deep floral honey character of this imposing and unctuous Mosel BA, there is also a floral side to this that is subtle and delicate. The intensity of the interplay between honeyed richness and vibrant acidity won’t be for everyone, but this cranks the core characteristics of nobly sweet Mosel rieslings up to a very high level. Extremely long, succulent and super-clean finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.

The 2023 Riesling Berncasteler Doctor Beerenauslese, made mainly from botrytized fruit, offers slightly smoky blossom honey that veers into golden apricot compote. A slight lemon lift indicates the super-clean botrytis and later, tantalizing passion fruit comes into play. The palate is concentrated, fluid and smooth with sweetness, cut by vivid freshness. Candied lemon creates a long, superbly clean-cut finish, filling the senses with exquisite but measured sweetness. What elegance from the Doctor.
