Overview of the Wine
At the beginning of the 19th century, Thomas Reynolds migrated to the Alentejo region with the cork business as his goal. Three generations later, his grandson John Reynolds, acquired Herdade do Mouchão for wine production.

In 1901 the first vineyards were planted on the property and, in 1929, construction began on a traditional winery and distillery, which still produces Mouchão brandy today.

Today, Herdade do Mouchão continues to be managed and worked on by the descendants of the original family and the entire winemaking process remains virtually unchanged, preserving the traditional harvest by hand and the fermentation of the grapes in stone presses, using foot treading. It is these techniques and the entire success story of Herdade do Mouchão that makes this wine-growing company so close to what wines used to be like.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Deep Ruby of closed core. Intense and complex aroma of very ripe wild fruits, spice and black olive paste. In the mouth it is dense, of firm but thin tannin, with layers of fruit, mint and tobacco to deliver to the frank acidity, length and longevity in the mouth.

Decant or open between 12 and 24 hours before serving. At its best potential by 2037. Consume at a temperature of 17℃, accompanying meat grills or hunting dishes.

The very young 2018 Mouchão is dark, almost opaque and has pungent notes of black berry fruit, cassis, blackberries, black cherries, mulberries and blueberries. It's heady and juicy and a little herbal, with hints of tomato vine that give it a very southern accent. It's full-bodied and lush, concentrated and powerful, with that impossible-to-describe elegant rusticity that only Mouchão is able of. It should be long lived. This is an Alentejo of strong personality.
