Overview of the Wine
Situated on the north-facing slopes of the Santa Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County, the Alma Rosa estate vineyard, El Jabali, was first planted in 1983 by California wine pioneer Richard Sanford, who founded Alma Rosa Winery in 2005.
Today, our 628-acre estate has five distinct vineyard sites planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Grenache that stretch from the valley floor to 850’ in elevation. Our total 40 vineyard acres comprise a small portion of our ranch and are separated by open wildlife corridors, meadows and forest.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The 2023 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir, sourced primarily from Alma Rosa’s own El Jabali estate vineyard shows a deep ruby hue with aromas of tart cherry, sassafras and black tea. The palate offers black cherry, raspberry, blueberry and red licorice with pepper and pomegranate, lifted by bright acidity and fine tannins for a long, expressive finish.
94 Points - James Suckling
Open-knit and expressive even this early in its evolution, there is a pureness and generosity to the fruit of this polished wine, with brandied cherries, black raspberry-seamed ganache and minerals. Black-tea tannins promise successful aging in the cellar. Drink or hold.
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Tart cherry, orange peel and nutmeg aromas make for a familiar and pleasing introduction to the nose of this bottling. The palate balances flavors of brisk red fruit and peppery spices with a persistent, easy-drinking acidity.
