Overview of the Wine
On the periphery of the Castiglione Falletto township, centre of the Barolo area, crowning the Bricco Boschis hill, one comes upon the Tenuta Vitivinicola Cavallotto (the Cavallotto Vineyards) of 25 hectares of which 23 spread of vineyards.
Cavallotto Estate has been in the family for five generations and in 1948, the brothers Olivio and Gildo, who were continuing the work of their grandfather Giacomo, their father Giuseppe and their uncle Marcello, became the first people of the area to dedicate themselves to the production and trading of wines. These wines were obtained solely from the grapes of their own vineyards.
Olivio's offspring, Laura, Giuseppe, and Alfio continue to produce wine which is made exclusively from the estate's grapes and from the transformation of these they obtain DOC and DOCG: Barolo, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo Langhe, Freisa Langhe, Grignolino Piedmonte, Pinot Langhe, Chardonnay Langhe.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
From this cru you get Barolo of great structure but with elegance and complexity. Initially fruity aromas, later floral and then still spicy, open and intense. Generally of exceptional aptitude for aging. Pairs with red meat in general, grilled or raw shellfish, grilled white meats, hard-grained or seasoned cheeses, chocolate.
100 Points - Kerin O'Keefe
Offering intensity and concentration, the drop-dead gorgeous 2019 Vigna San Giuseppe Riserva, part of the Dynamic Duo of Cavallotto's extraordinary 2019 Riservas, is intensely fragrant, featuring pronounced aromas of violet, baking spice, new leather and baked plum. Offering depth and layers of flavors, the delicious, structured palate delivers layers of ripe Marasca cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg and crushed mint before closing on a note of Earl Grey tea. A network of firm but velvety tannins provides support while bright acidity keeps it energized and balanced. This is one for the long haul. (KO)
97 Points - Wine Advocate
The 2019 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is a very special wine. In fact, it is one of the most complete vintages of this wine I can remember tasting because it offers notable finesse to complement the virile power that is such a signature here. Black fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, dried herbs and lavender saturate the palate, framed by incisive yet well-integrated tannins that wrap it all together. The 2021 was impressive from tank. It is all that and more today. (ML)
97 Points - Wine Spectator
Beginning to hit its stride, this elegant red features a finely wrought structure of acidity and tannins, while plum, cherry, licorice, tar, iron and eucalyptus flavors abound. Showing plenty of detail, this is corralled on the long aftertaste by vibrant acidity. Best from 2027 through 2047. 740 cases made, 230 cases imported. (BS)
