Overview of the Wine
The Dampt family has a long and illustrious tradition of winemaking in Chablis, with Daniel Dampt and his grandfather Jean Defaix both owning highly regarded estates in the region. Daniel’s son, Vincent, grew up in this world of Chardonnay and decided to follow in the family’s tradition by enrolling himself in wine school at the young age of 14.

After graduating, he trained for a short time in the Jura before gaining a position at none other than Domaine Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet. In 2002, after finishing his training at Leflaive, Vincent began working with his father as winemaker for the family’s estate. After two years, he inherited a few small plots of vineyards, enabling him to create his own domaine. With full control over aspect of farming and winemaking, Vincent truly came into his own as a top tier producer in Chablis with wines that speak of precision and elegance.

Vincent’s Chablis vineyards are exquisitely situated on the left bank of the Serein river, on the famous Kimmeridgian marl; a mixture of clay, chalk and marine fossils. For his village and premier cru wines, Vincent vinifies exclusively in tank to preserve every bit of the classic Chablis cut and minerality. With his micro-production Grand Crus, he ferments and ages the wines in older barrels. The fruit for these wines comes from prime parcels in Valmur and Les Clos, showing every bit the majestic qualities that have made these vineyards legendary. With his minimalist approach in the cellar, Chablis rarely is able to express itself with such clarity.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The age of the vines, as well as its exposure and terrain, make this wine a flattering, rounded, and very well-structured wine. It also displays a beautiful minerality and is very expressive on the nose. This wine will pair well with saffron-roasted langoustines, chicken supreme with Époisses sauce, or pike-perch fillet with beurre blanc.

93 Points - Decanter
Vincent Dampt (grandson of Jean Defaix) trained in Beaune and the Jura before spells with Olivier Leflaive and in Marlborough, NZ. From old vines in Milly, this shows typical weight on the palate, lots of generosity and purity that's cut precisely with a fine line of lemon-lime acidity. Finely poised, an impressive advert for this premier cru.

92 Points - Burghound
An even cooler and decidedly more restrained nose reluctantly reveals its aromas of petrol, quinine and freshly cut citrus along with a hint of oyster shell. The dense, delicious and vibrant medium-bodied flavors exude both evident sap and minerality on the surprisingly powerful and impressively long finale. This is excellent and definitely worth your interest.

92 Points - Jasper Morris
A lime touch to the lemon. A bright positive grassy fruit here, good intensity in the middle, deeper fruit behind. This is made from one plot of 50 year old vines and another which is young, half and half. Fresh finish with fair intensity. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: May 2023

90 Points - Vinous
The 2022 Chablis Cote de Lechet 1er Cru is too reduced on the nose, and the SO2 obscures the terroir expression. The palate is well-balanced, with fine acidity and is actually far better than the aromatics. Quite fresh, nicely poised, with a touch of sour lemon on the finish, this has quite a long aftertaste. It's just the aromatics that let this down. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.
