Overview of the Wine
Chateau Barreyre is an historic property with an authentic 18th century chateau. The chateau was constructed in 1774 by Nicolas Barreyre, but the cultivation of the vine on the property dates back even further. The Barreyre family is a prominent Bordelais family of bourgeois origin, which may explain why the estate weathered the French Revolution and remains within the family, even until this day. Chateau Barreyre is evidence of just how fine many of Bordeaux's smaller, lesser known estates, called petits chateaux, can be. A 22-acre property with a view of the Gironde and the nearby port of Macau, Chateau Barreyre actually lies within the Medoc. It is in fact quite close to Margaux. Yet, on account of its proximity to the river, Chateau Barreyre is only entitled to the appellation Bordeaux Superieur – a boon to savvy consumers looking for bona fide Bordeaux at an affordable price.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Black currant and tart blackberry notes mingle with hints of spice box and soy. Approachable-style, with a ripe and velvety texture and soft tannins in the vibrant finish.

90 Points - Vinous
The 2019 Barreyres still has that pure, almost Burgundy-like bouquet of perfumed red berry fruit intermingling with rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, nicely integrated oak and a detailed, persistent, mocha-tinged finish. Very elegant for the vintage.

90 Points - Wine Advocate
A fine effort from this 101-hectare estate in Arcins, the 2019 Barreyres delivers aromas of sweet berry and currant fruit mingled with notions of tobacco leaf and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and nicely balanced, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it punches above its weight.

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This producer in the Haut-Médoc also has vines classified as Bordeaux. With ripe tannins and smoky fruits, this wine is stylish. Drink now.
