Overview of the Wine
The word Copia is a Latin root word that means abundance or plenty. It’s an apt name for a winery that is created by two people that have always chased the glass half full.
The story of Copia Vineyards begins with the passion of Anita and Varinder Sahi, their shared love of wine and the beauty of its source. The Sahis each had different paths to this world. He has an engineering and business background, and she is a restaurant and marketing veteran. He globetrotted for work and his love for wine grew. She worked side-by-side with some of the finest restaurateurs and Michelin-starred chefs, cultivating her zeal for fine food and wine. Their shared interests, entrepreneurship and life’s ever-winding path sparked a trip to Paso Robles Wine Country in 2015. Essentially, they never left.
In 2017, the Sahis’ search to find a special site to produce world-class Rhône and Bordeaux varietals was successful. They became the proud stewards of 50 acres of paradise-on-earth in the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. It is now a veritable winemaker’s dream with nearly 40,000 vines planted in 24 distinct blocks. In 2022, their estate grew to include 26 acres of dramatic landscape in the Adelaida District. Both vineyard sites have breathtakingly beautiful slopes, calcareous soils and strong marine influence. Simply put, the Sahis believe that these vineyards are legendary. The vines on the Copia Estate are now producing some of the most opulent, concentrated fruit with densely rich varietal characteristics.
The Copia wines are the result of a lifetime’s worth of learning experiences, efforts taken and opportunities seized. This is but a snapshot of the story that surrounds each bottle. It is our pleasure to share this with you as you explore Copia wines. “Cheers,” to the path that brought you here today.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The Source embodies our love of blending cooler climate Syrah with our own Estate Syrah. What results is a full-bodied journey brimming with violets, blackberries, peppercorn, smoked meat and tobacco. It's a multi-layered gem for the cellar.
This is the very first harvest from Copia's Willow Creek Estate Vineyard, which, geographically speaking, backs into Terry Hogue's TH Estate Vineyard and L'Aventure's Arbor Road Vineyard. This harvest was very similar to becoming new parents, complete with dreams of perfection and lack of sleep. We are very happy with the quality of the fruit of this first harvest. 2021 The Source is composed of 50% Paso Robles Willow Creek District vineyards (Denner, Copia) and 50% cooler climate Syrah from Alisos Canyon (Thompson) and Santa Maria Valley (Bien Nacido Vineyard).
96 Points - Wine Independent
The 2021 The Source is composed of 95% Syrah, 4% Grenache, and 1% Viognier. Deep garnet-purple colored, it features expressive notes of baked plums, boysenberry preserves, and anise, giving way to suggestions of lavender, Sichuan pepper, and forest floor. The full-bodied palate is wonderfully elegant with firm, fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness to support, finishing long and fragrant. This was vinified with 10% whole clusters. Only 305 cases were made.
96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
I loved the 2021 The Source. This beauty just about jumps out of the glass with its ripe red, blue, and black fruits as well as ground black pepper, bacon fat, and spring flower-like aromatics. It's beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, and blockbuster length. Drink bottles over the coming decades. This is based on 95% Syrah, 4% Grenache, and 1% Viognier, from a mix of Paso Robles (Denner and Copia vineyards) and Santa Barbara (Thompson and Bien Nacido vineyards). It will drink well for 10-12 years, and it’s brilliant today.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Dark plum and cassis aromas are lifted by woodspice and cocoa on the nose of this wine, which includes 4% Grenache and 1% Viognier. Intensely firm tannins and a thick mouthfeel dominate the sip, where cappuccino, cocoa dust and roasted fig flavors align. Drink now–2038.
93 Points - Vinous
Darkly alluring, the Syrah-dominated 2021 The Source opens with a blend of peppery violet florals and crushed black raspberries. It sweeps across the palate with silken textures, propelled by racy acidity as tart wild berry fruits saturate toward the close. A tinge of spice lingers under an air of sweet lavender as the 2021 finishes wonderfully tannic and fresh.
92 Points - James Suckling
A delicious blend of 95% syrah, 4% grenache and 1% viognier, expressing notes of wild currants, dried herbs, baking spices and stones. Full body with chewy tannins. Textured and chalky, with a rich core of dark berries and a equally generous finish. Drink or hold.
