Overview of the Wine
There is hardly another vineyard that has shaped the perception of the Wachau as a serious high-quality wine-growing region as strongly as that of the Knoll family. Many generations of this family have dedicated their lives to growing wine: the first glass bottles were filled with Knoll wine in the 1950s, and the arguably most famous wine label in Austria – the family’s trademark baroque image of Saint Urban – first graced the Knoll wine bottles in 1962.

The family cultivates wine on sixteen hectares, and the names of his terraces have become common knowledge among both national and international wine drinkers: the Kellerberg, Loibenberg, Pfaffenberg and especially the Schütt yield the fruit for the famous range of Knoll Riesling and Veltliner, which are all clear, precise, mineral-rich and structured, frequently revealing their full potential after years or even decades.

Tasting Notes
The labels of the Emmerich Knoll,(pronounced K-noll) wines feature the iconography of Saint Urban, the patron saint of winegrowing. This nod to history and tradition is a theme that flows through the whole operation. The wines are made in classic fashion, with native yeasts and each wine fermented in old oak of varying sizes. This Gruner Veltliner shows the round, flavourful style of wine that Emmerich Knoll,Jnr and Snr are renowned for. As the Falstaff Ultimate Wine Guide states, "This winery has produced so many cult wines over the last decades that it would not be a problem to fill an entire book with their tasting notes."

Flexes with food. A zippy and powerful wine. Pairs well with stinky cheese, roast white meats, white sauce, spicy food, and fried food.

90 Points - James Suckling
Very racy and vibrant with aromas of summer meadows, green and yellow apples plus a touch of pepper. This is at the lower limit of medium-bodied but has a healthy structure, the fine tannins neatly underlining the discreet fruit. Excellent balance and good length. Drink or hold.
