Overview of the Wine
The historic Maximin Grünhaus estate lies at the foot of a long, steep south-facing slope on the left bank of the tiny Ruwer river, about two kilometers upstream from where it joins the Mosel. The estate belongs to the family of Carl von Schubert and is divided into three separate but contiguous vineyards: Abtsberg, Herrenberg, and Bruderberg. Each of these vineyards has its own distinct differences in terroir, which explain the unique character of the wines made at Maximin Grünhaus.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The Herrenberg vineyard is based more on red slate than its neighbor Abtsberg. It also has deeper topsoil that retains more water, which can be of great benefit in dry years. The wines are more generous and tend to open up sooner than those of Abtsberg, but are capable of equal longevity. This wine is produced in the delicate Kabinett style, and exhibits the distinctive stone fruit flavors and red slate minerality that are typical of this vineyard’s terroir.
94 Points - James Suckling
Complex nose of peach, mango chutney and fresh herbs. At once succulent and vibrant, this is a very beautiful Kabinett that is hard to resist (at least if you like white wines with bright fruit aromas). Staggering vitality at the very long crystalline finish. Drink or hold.
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
A smoky note opens up this rather firm kabinett that is primarily mineral driven, and then the sweet guava, white raspberry and star fruit come out. This dances on the palate in a groovy way. Long finish.
90 Points - Decanter
Petrol, stone fruits and acacia perfume on the nose. Off-dry on the palate with crisp green apple acidity, minty herbs plus a pinch of flint. Ripe citrus fruits and lovely acacia blossom on the finish. A quaffable delight at only 7.5% alcohol. The Riesling fruits were sourced from the slate soils of the flatter rear part of the Herrenberg vineyard.
