Overview of the Wine
“Being pioneers in Chile was an exciting challenge, and we have chosen a superb location.”
-Baron Eric de Rothschild
Estate Grown, Hand Picked, Hand Sorted, Estate Bottled.
The acquisition of Los Vascos by Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1988 was the result of a careful search among more than 100 Chilean wines for one that could meet the Rothschild criteria for excellence.
Los Vascos wines blend Lafite tradition with the unique terroir of Chile to create elegant wines that bring exceptional to the everyday. The vision of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) to expand their estates took them to South America in 1988, becoming the first French viticultural investment in modern Chile. Since then, a comprehensive modernization and investment program has been undertaken, oriented towards the production of fine wine using and adapting the viticultural experiences of Bordeaux and other areas where Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) is present. Los Vascos is located in Valley de Caneten (Colchagua), a closed valley in the central zone of Chile, approximately 25 miles from the sea. The valley provides a perfect microclimate for high quality viticulture, with Northern exposure to lands uncontaminated by airborne or water-borne pollutants. Daily on-shore winds provide temperature changes between 68-77°F, for optimum maturation of the grapes. With 1,581 acres on the over 5,000 acre estate, it is one of the largest vineyards in the central Colchagua valley, at the foot of Mount Cañeten.
The pioneering ambition of DBR in Chile was above all the result of extensive research into the potential of local wines. Many properties were visited and many wines were tasted before choosing Los Vascos, because of its location near the ocean and its exceptional soil. Along with ideal weather conditions, Los Vascos benefits from intense exposure to the sun, adequate water sources, semi-arid soils and little risk of frost. At an average of 130 m above sea level and at just 40 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, the microclimate of Viña Los Vascos has everything to produce fine wines.

Tasting Notes
Deep color with ruby tones.
The nose is intense, with notes of raspberry, plum, blackberry and strawberry. Hints of black pepper and liquorice contribute to the aromatic complexity.
The wine offers good volume and fine tannins that confer a pleasant structure and persistence. All this is balanced by a good acidity bringing a touch of freshness.
A vintage of excellent quality that allowed this Cabernet Sauvignon to express its true potential.
90 Points - James Suckling
Currants, red plums and green olives follow through to a medium-bodied palate with lightly chewy tannins and a crunchy, medium-length finish. Not complex, but quite well-balanced. Drink now.
