Overview of the Wine
With its 7.53 hectares, Clos de Tart is the largest of the five Grands Crus Monopoles in Burgundy.

The Grand Cru appellation applies to terroirs with an excellent reputation that can produce the very best wines. There are only 33 of these appellations in Burgundy and their production taken together represents only 1% of total regional production.

The reference to 'Monopole' indicates that the climat is entirely in sole ownership. This is quite rare in Burgundy as the plots, even the very small ones, have frequently been divided up over time and for inheritance reasons.

Custodian of a rich and fascinating history spanning nine centuries, Clos de Tart's vineyard has never been divided, which is a very rare occurrence in Burgundy.

A unique treasure, the Estate has only had four owners throughout its history:

- The Cistercian nuns of Tart Abbey from 1141 to 1791,

- The Marey-Monge Family from 1791 to 1932,

- The Mommessin Family from 1932 to 2018,

- The Pinault Family via their holding company, Artémis Domaines, since April 2018.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Alluring crimson robe with a wonderfully complex nose showing fresh red fruits, such as wild strawberry and loganberry as well as darker fruit flavours of blackcurrant and plum, along with earthy, spicy notes and a delicate floral perfume. On the palate this wine shows its pedigree, exhibiting exquisite balance and precision.

98 Points - James Suckling
A rich wine that develops beautifully in the glass and the tannins are really fine, adding framing and energy to an otherwise rich and characterful wine. It's full-bodied with a silky texture and lots of ripe strawberry, pie crust and light chocolate, as well as some earthy and bark undertones. Iodine and fresh flowers too. Precise, focused and refined at the end. Impressive to taste, but drink after 2030.

97 Points - Decanter
The 2022 Clos de Tart is a surprisingly deep colour endowed with pronounced cassis and pomegranate aromas, rose petals, liquorice, and a savoury game note. The texture is silky and fresh but not lacking in body—it is an exquisite balance, made more delightful by the charming sweetness of the fruit on the palate. The best grapes of the Clos were carefully fermented, with just over half of them fermented as whole clusters. The wine is ageing now in cask (60% new), where it will stay for at least 20 months.

96 Points - Jasper Morris
A full deep crimson purple. Very intense with bilberries and boysenberries. There is a layer of luxury coating the fruit. Yet it is far from over voluptuous on the palate, there are good signs of the more refined sensuality that Alessandro is trying to bring here. The peaches, pêches de vigne, are just present in the background to remind one of the warmth of the vintage, yet there is a welcome layer of velvet on top of the bones. The red carpet has been put down. Tasted from a different glass (Grassl) the Clos de Tart no longer shows the peaches, the fruit appearing more accessible and less sunny.

95 Points - Vinous
I tasted the 2022 Clos de Tart Grand Cru from a wide Burgundy-type glass. It feels a little closed at the moment after bottling. Redcurrant/cranberry fruit open, with blacker fruit emerging with aeration. Hints of wild mint and thyme linger in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with bold tannins, but there is sufficient fruit to back it up. There is firm grip toward the finish, where I would just like a little more transparency and Pinoté, hence my score.

94 Points - Burghound
This is at once aromatically fresher, more elegant and more floral-suffused, along with slightly more prominent wood influence on the cool dark berry fruit aromas. The impressively rich, indeed plush and velvet-textured, larger-bodied flavors brim with sappy dry extract that buffers the very firm tannic spine shaping the powerful, wonderfully long and better-balanced finale. The dense but relatively fine-grained tannins should permit this beauty to be approachable young but also enable it to repay 15+ years of keeping.
