Overview of the Wine

Zeitgeist Cellars is a collaboration between husband and wife winemaking team, Mark Porembski and Jennifer Williams. Mark has worked in many small Napa Valley wineries and has also made wine in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Heis also the winemaker at Anomaly Vineyards and Unwritten. Jenn was the winemaker for Spottswoode Winery from 2006 through 2010 and now works with Arrow & Branch, Ziata Wines, and Young Inglewood. With two winemakers in one wine project, there are plenty of opinions. But the result are wines that are delicious and pure, reflecting the spirit of the times. The word ZEITGEIST (tsit- gist) is a philosophical term meaning the spirit of the times. The word was coined by the German Romanticists to describe the cultural, ethical and spiritual mood of an era. The wine is named for the belief that wine allows us to conjure up our very own distinct place in this time and culture.

Trousseau Gris is a French variety of white wine grape. It is occasionally found in eastern France and was once widely grown in California under the name Gray Riesling. A native of the Jura region, Trousseau Gris is a true “Grey” grape and can make either white wines or slightly colored wines. Once widely planted, it is now extremely limited. In fact, the small plot of Trousseau Gris in the Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County (where the grapes for this wine are grown) is possibly one of the last left in the United States being cultivated for wine production. In cool climates it can produce fresh aromatic wines. It needs gentle handling and careful winemaking to bring out its best.

Tasting Notes

Unabashedly straightforward: fresh, vibrant crisp, and gorgeously balanced. Clean notes of white peach and lemon are grounded by mineral and a touch of anise. The wine hits your palate with energy and crispness, but gradually evolves into a more complex and round wine. For those looking to step outside the traditional white wine varietals this wine is a perfect way to stretch your palate.
