About The Producer
Warwick Estate is a high-end South African winery in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. The estate has a rich farming history dating back to 1771.
Then a fruit farm, Warwick only emerged on the forefront of South Africa’s wine scene when Stan and Norma Ratcliffe bought the estate in 1964 and started developing the land with an extensive focus on the classic Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Through determination and commitment, Norma Ratcliffe became one of the Cape’s first female winemakers – and one of its most illustrious wine personalities, whose legacy is immortalised in the Warwick “First Lady” range.
The first wine under the Warwick label was released in 1984, then named “La Femme Bleu” – “Blue Lady” as it is known today. Two years later, in 1986, the Warwick Trilogy – a three varietal Bordeaux-style blend – was released and has since been recognised as a truly iconic wine, with multiple vintages adorning some of the greatest wine lists in the world. Throughout the years, Warwick’s wines have won many awards, firmly establishing the brand as a South African icon.
Overview of the Wine
Three Cape Ladies blends rich pinotage, spicy syrah and classic cabernet sauvignon to form the quintessential “Cape Blend” – a truly South African experience. Careful management of our old vineyards produces very low yields & small berries which are harvested & sorted by hand. Fermentation takes place in open-top tanks which are punched down by hand and matured in French oak for 18 months. Black currant and liquorice aromas fuse with spicy pepper flavors which compliment the full-bodied, ripe tannins.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Ripe plum and bramberry aromas fuse with a touch of pencil shavings to compliment the full bodied smooth tannins. This “Cape blend” brings the best of Pinotage to the classic French varieties.
Suggested pairing: Cape Malay lamb curry or a beetroot risotto with walnuts.
91 - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 50% Pinotage, 34% Shiraz and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak for 18 months (22% new), the 2013 Three Cape Ladies sees more Pinotage than previous vintages because of the sheer quality (it comes from a high density block, around 4,629 vines per hectare, planted 15 years ago). The nose is very perfumed with hints of peppermint infusing the black plum and black cherry fruit, with white fennel revealed by continued aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is a pleasing sense of purity here and their decision to up the percentage of Pinotage was an astute one, lending this a rounded, very supple and harmonious finish that just slips down the throat. This is recommended.
