Overview of the Wine

The quality of wine is based on the quality of all its inputs – good vineyards, smart farming, pure and focused winemaking – ultimately attention and TLC at every step. We make this wine from the vineyards to the bottle, working closely with grape growers from awesome little vineyard sites in Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and the Sierra Foothills. We’ve sought out interesting sites  with great dirt, farm them with care and thought, and use traditional winemaking to craft honest wine and make an artisanal red wine blend to match any occasion, any food, any time. Vermillion is a
terroir-driven, delicious, hand-crafted wine to be enjoyed any night of the week.
It is aged in 100% French oak barrels in a cold cellar for 16 months before being bottled without fining or filtration.
2300 Cases produced.

Winemaker Helen Keplinger attended the MS program in Enology at UC Davis. Since UC Davis, she has worked with Heidi Barrett at Paradigm in Napa Valley, Kathy Joseph at Fiddlehead in Santa Barbara, Michel Rolland, and David Abreu in Napa Valley. She has made wine for some exciting projects, including Cellers Melis (Priorat, Spain), Kenzo Estate, Arrow & Branch, Bryant Family Vineyards, and is currently crafting Kerr Cellars, Carte Blanche and Grace Family Vineyard.
In 2012 Helen was named Winemaker of the Year by Food & Wine Magazine and was featured on the cover of Wine Spectator’s June 2014 issue; “Helen Keplinger a Rising Star in California Purses Distinctive Reds”.

Tasting Notes

The 2017 Vermillion red wine is bursting with ultra-lively aromas of ripe raspberry, dark fruit, blackberry, coriander and black tea. The palate is broad with finesse driven tannins rendered seamless after some air. The texture is opulent with layers of red and dark fruits, dried herbs, and middle eastern spices converging to a lengthy and profound finish.
