About The Producer
Venus “la Universal” is the project of married couple, Sara Pérez and René Barbier Jr., both offspring of influential wine producers of the Priorat D.O., Mas Martinet and Clos Mogador. Working in the Montsant D.O., they have been inspired by the goddess, with a goal to “interpret femininity through a bottle of wine”. Using organic farming and natural vinicultural practices, Sara and René aim to transport you to this corner of Montsant through each glass of wine.
Venus released its first wine thanks to a vine grower who brought old vine grapes to us. From then, we allways bet to establish very close relationships with our collaborators, rewarding their work in a just and worthy way. It allows them to follow the same philosophy and working method without penalize them. We started with just a few vine growers but the family is growing year after year. We are very happy and proud of their work, thanks to them Venus is as it is.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Good fruit expression marked by notes of minerals and aromatic herbs. Elegant and round, warm bouquet with a lovely intensity of fruit on the palate and a firm structure that will develop with time in the bottle.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The red 2017 Venus de La Figuera was produced with Garnacha from a vineyard on limestone-rich soils at 600 meters in altitude in the village of La Figuera. It has the fragrance of the Garnacha from the village in a warm Mediterranean vintage when the wine achieved 15% alcohol. It fermented with some whole clusters and indigenous yeast and matured in a 2,500-liter oak foudre for 18 months. This is aromatic, expressive and open, ripe and concentrated, but with amazing freshness and doesn't show the heat of the vintage at all. The palate is medium to full-bodied, and the tannins are very fine and elegant. This feels like a red from a cool vintage with the tasty sensation from the limestone soils. Here the soils are very white and shallow. 2,904 bottles and 204 magnums were filled in July 2019.
