Overview of the Wine
Our family is honored to offer you the very finest wines from the estate vineyard that we've been farming on a daily basis since 1929. Extremely limited production enables us to focus on quality with a hands on approach that reaches from grapevine to bottle.
Our heritage vineyard is located at the top of the Napa Valley near the town of Calistoga. Visually, the old and gnarled vines hearken back to another era. The methods we still use were once prevalent throughout the valley; no irrigation (not even a drip line to be seen), with an organic philosophy (we never jumped on the 'bandwagon' of post-war pesticides).
Known for our Zinfandel, we also grow rare and unusual varietals such as Charbono, Sauvignon Musqué, Semillon, Petite Sirah, Carignane, Grenache, Mondeuse Noir and Cinsault.
In the Napa Valley we enjoy a climate that can give our wines incredible concentration (and if we're not careful, a one dimensional simplicity). My goal as winemaker is to bring a little restraint to the ‘table’ - to give you wines that not only taste good now but will complement your meals and age gracefully.
Grape / Blend
90% Zinfandel, 6% Petite Sirah, and 4% Grenache
Calistoga Appellation, Napa Valley, CA
Coming from vines in Calistoga and a blend of 90% Zinfandel, 6% Petite Sirah, and 4% Grenache, the 2017 Zinfan- del Tofanelli Family Vineyard boasts a big, boisterous bouquet of wild strawber- ries, dried flowers, cedarwood, and spice. These carry to a medium-bodied, elegant Zinfandel that has terrific balance, light tannins, and a silky texture. Made in a more elegant, lightly textured yet beautifully balanced style, drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years or so.
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Rock star winemaker Françoise Peschon takes the reins here in Morris's Charbono-focused wine label. This vintage is juicy and dark in fruit, dust and rock. Cigar box with peppery seasonings, it has an earthy finishing touch of black licorice that intrigues.
Historic Vineyard Caught in a Wildfire
“The vines that my grandparents planted 90 years ago will be fine,” he said. “A hundred or so got scorched from the heat, so there will be a few years where they are not as productive, but they will be fine.”
