Overview of the Wine
Wines, like people, are a reflection of their origin and evolution. The Debate began in 2010 when two friends brought their unique perspectives together to create thought provoking and delicious wines that extend beyond the sense of taste to the thrill of telling stories and the art of listening. By selecting three different vineyards with three different expressions of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the Debate seeks to point out the diversity of terroir as well as the diversity of people. We live in an age where less and less time is spent at the dinner table discussing these different points of view. The Debate's mission is to bring people together to share a glass of wine to discuss and debate just as our team does.
Sourced from an Oakville vineyard just north of the town of Yountville, brought some serious drama in the form of a creamy, lush, spicy, supple Cabernet wine. Lots of baking spices and a dense, fruit-loaded mid-palate made this the ‘gushiest’ of the bunch in this taster’s opinion.

The Debate 2014 Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a resounding validation of Jean Hoeflinger and Rob McKay’s terroir experiments. On the nose, this Cabernet exhibits a wondrous medley of spritzed orange, dark chocolate, fresh-cut cedar, cinnamon, and caramel. This is a rich, full-bodied wine with a prominent palate of blackberry and blueberry liqueur, black licorice, and a hint of barbecue smoke. Smooth and silky tannins linger on the mid-palate to create a finish reminiscent of candied dark cherries.

There’s no debate, these Cabernets are truly winners. The Debate 2014 Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Cabernet Sauvignon is a celebration of one of Napa Valley’s oldest vineyards. This Cabernet imparts some characteristics of the neighboring vineyard, To Kalon (also available in this conversation-starting three-pack). Yet, the Bay-chilled winds of Missouri Hopper give this Cabernet a finessed palate that is robust, elegant, and sure to win over friends and loved ones. These wines are available in The Debate 2014 three-pack, of which only 200 cases were ever produced. Join the debate and order The Debate 2014 set today!
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
A 100% varietal, 100% barrel-fermented wine, given nearly two years in French oak, 70% of it new, this shows off the St. Helena site well, in its tight-grained intensity and smooth sizable tannins. Dried herb, lavender, black licorice and dark cherry coulis complement each other well, providing complexity and balance against the full-bodied concentration. Enjoy best 2024–2034.
