Overview of the Wine

Marchese Lodovico Antinori discovered the property of Tenuta di Biserno near Bibbona, in the Alta Maremma area of Tuscany, in 1994, while looking for additional land to expand his Tenuta dell’Ornellaia vineyard. Given its proximity to Bolgheri, it is not surprising he was at first struck by the similarity in terroir. What he found in Bibbona, however, had so much potential, he was inspired to develop a quite different plan. With more hills and stones than nearby Bolgheri, this land appeared to be ideally suited to produce a new and different wine. In 2001 Lodovico and his brother, Piero, established Tenuta di Biserno as an elite wine estate.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red. Complex nose with scents of blackberries, freshly ground coffee and licorice. The palate has an elegant structure with fine grained tannins, balanced acidity and a mineral feel on the lengthy finish.

Pair with braised or roasted meats and hard cheeses.

97 Points - James Suckling
Very subtle aromas of blackberries, black olives, tobacco, cedar and wet earth. Wild mushrooms, such as oyster mushrooms. Full-bodied with firm, very silky tannins and succulent fruit. Extremely refined and balanced with a long, racy finish. Great complexity. What 2017 had in concentration, this has in elegance and complexity. Wonderful length. A blend of 28% cabernet franc, 35% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot, the rest petit verdot. Try after 2025, but already an impressive young wine.

96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2018 Biserno is a beast of a wine (packaged in a heavy glass bottle) that fills the room with its perfumes as you pour the wine into your glass. The bouquet is thickly layered and rich with potent notes of ripe blackberry and blackish plum followed by baker's chocolate, spice and dark mahogany or cigar box. Excellent work has been achieved to tame the tannins, and the wine offers a long, polished feel and an impactful, full-bodied presence. The blend of fruit used here (from a seven-hectare parcel) is 28% Cabernet Franc, 32% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.
